![]() ![]() If the Partition is out-of-date, it is completely re-implemented and no preservation occurs. Partitions employs a technique where module instances of the FPGA design are automatically analyzed and determined to be either up-to-date or out-of-date with respect to the previous implementation of the module. The matched components of the design are preserved while the new and modified portions of the design are re-implemented. SmartGuide uses name and topology matching techniques to identify portions of an FPGA design that have not changed respective to a previous implementation. The Xilinx Integrated Software Environment (ISE) 9.1i software features new SmartCompile Technology, which includes two new methods – SmartGuide and Partitions – that preserve design implementation data, such as placement and routing, and may reduce time-to-solution. It requires preserving such things as the HDL description of a design, a synthesized netlist of a module, placement information in a constraint file, and configuration data in a partial bit file. In the context of FPGAs, design preservation presents a complex implementation challenge. ![]()
